So, what do you do when “It’s never been done before” and you want to try something new? Do you add “carrots” to the mix or stick to the status quo?
Here’s why I ask…
It was one of those special days when friends gathered together in the community kitchen. Everyone was ‘buzzing’ around -some hurriedly, some ‘romantically’ and a number of new members, very carefully.
A few of us sang songs, a few hummed along and a couple just wanted to get the job done as they barked orders -for them, there was no time for play, this was serious business!
From a distance, it may have appeared like utter chaos, but for us women, it was all about getting quality lunch ready and on time for community members. With the diverse personalities, intentions and belief systems in the room, it was a true exercise of team effort -to understand our individual roles within a collective aspiration.
The egg salad remained the last dish to prepare. My friend and I added the final touches of shredded carrots to it, pleased at what was unfolding before us.
We placed the bowls onto a tray for ‘pick-up’. The assigned Kitchen Chiefette came over for final inspection. To her horror, she asked: “Who put carrot in the egg salad?!”
My friend and I looked at each other and, like children whose hands were caught in the cookie jar, confessed to the deed.
This is when our Chiefette proclaimed, “You cannot do that!” Bewildered, I asked Chiefette: “Why not?” To which she replied: “Because the Leader, our blessed Teacher, never eats egg salad with carrots! It has never been done before!” Chiefette knew it was too late to change it and walked away disapprovingly. I admit, this exchange was peculiar to me.
Nevertheless, I felt confident at the time that our spiritual leader would not have frowned at our idea. He would have probably welcomed the carrots’ participation. After all, it was he who taught us that there are no coincidences.
Furthermore, we can lift all of life through conscious awareness. When engaging in any action, we have the opportunity to reveal the spark of light contained within it.
Just as doing regular exercise improves your physical health, the same applies when using mindful daily affirmations to support mental health and your outlook on life. When you believe in the positive affirmations you are using, and repeat them daily, you can begin to create positive changes in your life.
In this case, it was obvious to me that the carrot was divinely chosen to be included in the egg salad in order to be elevated by us through the act of eating.
This incident caused me to reflect on how often we can forget the point of why we do what we do, and instead focus on details that are completely insignificant, if not shaky toward the strength of our awareness.
We often allow cleverness or our desires to dictate the likely expression of our experiences, preventing a natural event from being orchestrated by the Universe. When we all finally sat down to eat, and I put a spoonful of egg salad into my mouth, the carrot’s delicious energy danced joyfully with my taste buds.
It is a marvel that with the diverse perspectives present that day, we managed to co-create a meal fit for Heaven. It goes to show that despite what we think, the constant Source flowing within The All cannot be stopped in its Splendor.
REFLECTION:
Since everything we observe on the ‘outside’ in some way mirrors the ‘inside’, it is worthwhile to reflect on the following questions.
You are invited to join me in this exercise:
- Where in life are you possibly trying to control a ‘status quo’ situation?
- Where might you be stuck in, “It has always been done this way” mentality?
- When looking for fresh, innovative ideas to awaken new experiences, do you seek others’ perspectives or stubbornly stick to your own?
- Are you willing to allow some discomfort in order to discover new ways of experiencing life authentically and creatively?
