Day 6 - Implement Your New Morning Routine
With your new game plan defined, it’s now time to implement your new morning routine. You will not only put your plan into action, but also make it a new habit.
Why is this important?
Because you want to ensure that your new plan materializes every morning without fail. Turning your new habits into a routine is the best way to make sure that you follow through on them.
Before something becomes a habit or a routine, it takes significant willpower for it to happen. That’s energy that you’ll need for other things throughout your busy morning.
Initially, it will take self-control, mental power, and perseverance to establish new morning habits. Once new habits are set into practice, they will become automatic (like brushing your teeth before sleep).
Once you come up with an ideal working morning routine, stick with it for a couple of weeks. That’s the best way to turn it into a powerful habit.
In a short while, it will all feel like the new normal to you. You will no longer have to remind yourself to do each new task along the way.
You will now stick to your new habits and routine on autopilot. It will take considerably less effort and mental pep-talk to complete what you set out to do… even if your new morning routine includes a 20-minute power walk or getting up at the crack of dawn to work on your most important task for an hour.
Watch out for moments when you fall back to your old habits and routines.
Know that “falling back” is going to happen, especially in the beginning. When this occurs, the key is to become aware as soon as possible and get back on course as quickly as you can.
For example, let’s say you’ve been doing well with getting up a half-hour earlier and going for a jog before you begin your day. Then at some point you oversleep and can’t make it out there. Or something else unexpected comes up, like the weather is poor, you feel ill or hurt yourself, or something else pops up that keeps you from going on that jog.
That’s life. Unpredictable things happen. What’s most important is what you determine to do the following morning.
Do you choose to get back on track with your morning routine?
What to do when life seems “to get in your way”…
Whenever something unplanned for interferes with your new morning routine, it’s crucial that you get back on your path as quickly as possible. Do what you can as soon as you become aware of any distraction.
For instance, if the weather is bad one morning, replace jogging with a quick exercise session or run on the treadmill indoors instead. If you overslept, then extend your meditation or reading time.
Be prepared in advance of the unexpected…

2.
3.
Just remember, after a minor set back, you can reset and get back into your new habits the following morning.
Most importantly, make a commitment to yourself to do your best to promptly return to your regular morning routine. Remind yourself of this pledge and keep taking action until your routine is firmly in place again.
You’ll be grateful once you start seeing the results you’ve been anticipating since implementation.
Tomorrow, on Day 7, our last day together (for now), we will look at ways for you to regularly check-in with yourself to review your habits and morning routine for ideal effectiveness.
See you bright and early!
This is the key to love life your way! Living by conscious design is walking the path of least resistance…one step at a time.
