5 effortless ways to turn a chaotic day into calm. Simply by adjusting what you’re already doing on a regular basis.

If you prefer to try easy, but effective methods to bring you more calmness throughout your day, without using the conventional practice of lengthy meditation, then read on…

Even though meditation practice is a wonderful way to bring calmness into your life, you might be in a position where you don’t want to take on any new activities in your already busy day. It might just feel like more undesired effort to take this approach. In this case, the following alternatives might work better for you now.

Here are 5 effortless ways to turn a chaotic day into calm:

1. Take a break from your mobile phone

Put your phone on SILENT mode or turn it off completely.

Schedule specific times of the day to check your phone, and assign ‘break times’ when you won’t make it so accessible to you. The biggest advantage is the time-out you gift your mind from the constant distractions of notifications, phone calls and text messages.

When you ‘silence’ your phone and its constant ‘call’ for the mind’s attention, you also give your body the opportunity to produce a healthy balance of “feel good” neuro-transmitters, like serotonin and dopamine.

Believe it or not, the world will NOT come to an end if you don’t look at or answer every message coming through your phone. The whole idea of this exercise is to develop a healthier discipline that can help you quiet the mind from chaotic thoughts and illusive feelings of urgency.

Bringing yourself back to the present moment also helps cultivate more ease for the mind and body.

It’s evident that this is a challenge for most people, as having a mobile phone can be mesmerizing at the very least…however, the benefits of taking a break from it are tremendous in achieving more calmness in your day.

If this feels impossible for you to do, then begin with baby-steps and work your way up to this objective.

2. Sit down and eat with Presence and Calmness

Sit down and eat with presence-5 Effortless Ways To Turn A Chaotic Day Into One Of Calmness

This might sound counter-intuitive, as it’s a common belief that we are automatically present when eating. However, most times this isn’t the case.

Many of us experience a chaotic day because we are ‘on the fly’, trying to fit everything in a short time frame all at once. This is especially true when it comes to sitting down properly and eating a meal.

It’s common for people to multi-task and ‘wolf’ down their food unconsciously, without being present to fully chew and taste it.

A simple way to bring yourself to a state of calmness is through mindful eating. Make it a practice to slow down, chew your food thoroughly, and digest each bite calmly. Bring your attention to eating and focus on the taste and texture of what you’re eating.

The health of our bodies is dependent on how we digest food. Our mouths are the first point in the process of digestion. When we thoroughly chew our food before swallowing, we make the work of our stomach so much easier.

Take pleasure in eating quietly and ‘listen’ to your body’s communications. Not only will you feel calmer, but you will also know when you’ve eaten enough. You will be more aware if your body doesn’t want any more food intake. Mindful eating alleviates all kinds of stressful or chaotic feelings and sensations within the body and mind.

3. Watch your favorite show to feel calmer

I bet this comes to you as a shock! Watch TV? Isn’t it a common belief that watching TV is unhealthy for the mind?

You may ask how this will make you feel calmer… and surprisingly, it can if done in healthy moderation.   This isn’t to imply that you start binge-watching TV every day. Instead, this is another simple way to take a break from a chaotic day and calm the mind from critical over-thinking.

Just put on your favorite show or movie with the intention to relax and enjoy, without analysis. Choose topics that will enhance positive feelings within you, so as not to wake and aggravate the ‘sleeping giant’ of the mind.

It’s recommended that you finish watching a TV program or movie at least one hour prior to going to sleep, to allow the brainwaves in the mind to slow down.

4. Do something ordinary

Although it doesn’t sound too exciting to do something mundanely routine, like washing dishes or brushing our teeth, such activities are beneficial for the mind.

We spend most of our waking hours consumed with thousands of thoughts, not allowing ourselves the breathing space to be fully present and focused on one thing at a time…especially if we’re involved in performing a menial task.

Next time you’re doing something routine, try to put your full attention on doing that one thing and let any counter-productive thoughts just pass through you without ‘chewing on them’.   Experience how much calmer and lighter you will feel.

Presence is a gift that can turn what was once perceived as tedious, into a unique experience filled with fresh new energy.

5. Surround your Self with Calming Art, Be Creative

Whether you’re a talented artist or not, you can discover various ways to calm the mind through art. You can visit an art gallery, a museum, or simply hang a beautiful painting on your wall that you can view daily.

Looking at art is a powerful way to help calm the mind and ground the body, bringing your entire being into a state of harmony.

Another way to use art to achieve more calmness, is to engage in creative projects and activities. Try some recreational art classes, like painting, pottery-making, writing, photography, etc.

The benefits of utilizing our creative faculties are numerous. Not only do we gain more peace of mind, but we also increase the ability to open our hearts, learn more about who we are, and live in our joy!
